A widow twice over in Iraq whose husbands were killed by the Islamic State group is seeking revenge against the militant group's jihadis, becoming one of its most ardent, if not brutal, foes in the country, according to a new report. Wahida Mohamed, also known as Wehda al-Jumaili whose nicknam is Umm Hannadi, said she was part of the militia that helped drive ISIS forces from her hometown last week.
Part of how Mohamed made a name for herself is mirroring the brutality and torturous methods for which ISIS first gained notoriety, CNN reported. She has taken it upon herself to create her own militia group targeting ISIS to avenge the deaths of her first two husbands, her father and three brothers, who she says were killed in combat fighting the terror organization. Because of that, she said, she chooses to fight fire with fire.
"I fought them, I beheaded them, I cooked their heads, I burned their bodies," she told CNN reporter Ben Wedeman in Iraq of ISIS fighters. As proof, she posts the grisly images to her Facebook page, the Daily Star reported.
Her weapon of choice? A machete.
Mohamed's approach has made her a prime target for ISIS militants, she said. "Six times they tried to assassinate me," she said to CNN. "I have shrapnel in my head, legs, my ribs were broken, but all that didn’t stop me from fighting."
However, ISIS was once again unsuccessful in killing has, as shown Sept. 22 when Iraq's military pushed ISIS out of the strategic town of Shirqat, which is situated near a main thoroughfare to Baghdad, according to the Wall Street Journal, which used a photo of Mohamed to accompany its story online. The Iraq army commander who oversaw the military operation made sure to credit her and her militia for their role in the operation.
“She was as competent as any army officer was in the way she led her fighters,” Gen. Jumma Ennad said.
It is her pride as an Iraqi that motivates her to keep fighting.
"If we lose Iraq again, we'll lose it forever," she said.
